CA confirms 7 envoys and 2 other DFA senior officials

The nominations and ad interim appointments of nine senior officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) were confirmed by the Commission on Appointments (CA) yesterday in its plenary session presided by President of the Senate/Chairman of the Commission Franklin M. Drilon.
The confirmation came on the same day that the Commission’s foreign affairs committee, headed by Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, deliberated on their nominations and appointments. The committee members were convinced of the competence and fitness of all the nominees and appointees as Defensor Santiago highlighted the qualifications of each of them during the committee hearing. Committee Vice Chair Sen. Aquilino “Koko” L. Pimentel III recommended their confirmation to the plenary with no objections raised.
Confirmed by the Commission were those of seven envoys, namely, Carlos D. Sorreta, as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation with concurrent jurisdiction over the Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus and Republic of Ukraine, Chief of Mission, Class I, Nestor Z. Eighty-nine Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) general/flag and senior officers hurdled the Commission on Appointments (CA) yesterday when their ad interim appointments were confirmed by the CA en banc during its plenary session presided by President of the Senate / Chairman of the Commission Franklin M. Drilon.

The Commission on Appointments (CA), yesterday, in its plenary session presided by President of the Senate/Chairman of the Commission Franklin M. Drilon, gave its consent to the nomination of Hon. Angelina Sandoval-Gutierrez as member of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) representing the Retired Justices of the Supreme Court and the ad interim appointment of Hon. Jose V. Mejia as member of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) representing the Academe, Supreme Court of the Philippines.
Sandoval-Gutierrez will serve a full-term of four years vice Hon. Regino C. Hermosisima, Jr.. Mejia, on the other hand, whose first term as JBC member expired last July 9, 2014, was granted another four-year term ending on July 8, 2018. He already served as a member of the JBC from May 2011 - July 2014.
